The Nightingale

Zhigen, an elderly farmer from China, has spent over two decades alone in Beijing after relocating there to enable his son, Chongyi, to pursue higher education. He opts to embark on a long journey from Beijing to Yangshuo to fulfill a vow he made to his late wife: to return the bird that was his sole friend in the metropolis. Coinciding with this, his daughter-in-law, Qianying, a successful and wealthy businesswoman, requests that he bring along his granddaughter Renxing, a lone child accustomed to affluence. As Zhigen and Renxing journey together—he revisiting the past, she uncovering her heritage—Chongyi and Qianying reflect on their existence centered around achieving success and amassing wealth.
