The Good Heart

In “The Good Heart” (2009), dive bar owner Jacques, played by Brian Cox, is steadfastly drinking and smoking his way into oblivion in a gritty New York setting. This rundown establishment is a refuge for an odd group of professional drinkers, united by their shared loneliness. Jacques’ path crosses with Lucas, portrayed by Paul Dano, a homeless young man who has given up on life. Deciding that Lucas could be the right person to carry on his legacy, Jacques brings him into the fold, introducing him to the male-dominated rules of his bar: no new patrons, no customer fraternization, and absolutely no women. As Lucas quickly learns the ropes, their growing bond faces a challenge when the distressed and alluring April, played by Isild Le Besco, appears seeking refuge. “The Good Heart” can be watched online, for free, right here.
