Alone in Berlin

In June 1940, Berlin is immersed in Nazi propaganda celebrating the conquest of France, but in a modest room in Prenzlauer Berg, sorrow reigns supreme. Anna and Otto Quangel’s lives are turned upside down after the death of their son on the front lines. Previously staunch supporters of the ‘Führer’, they now see his promises as hollow and deceitful. Driven by their disillusionment and grief, they embark on a silent crusade by writing postcards to spread their anti-war message, boldly stating, “Stop the war machine! Kill Hitler!” At great personal risk, they distribute these postcards in tenement building entrances and stairwells, while the SS and the Gestapo, as well as suspicious neighbors, close in on them. Alone in Berlin (2016) encapsulates a gripping narrative of defiance and courage.
