Hot Sugar’s Cold World

Nick Koenig, known by his stage name Hot Sugar, finds himself in a complicated situation. This young, innovative electronic musician/producer is often compared to Mozart of our era as he transforms mundane everyday sounds—ranging from payphone clicks to the raindrops of Hurricane Sandy—into beats that have earned Grammy Award nominations. Living the dream life of any artist, complete with his internet-famous girlfriend, rapper/singer “Kitty,” Hot Sugar’s world is turned upside down when she decides to end the relationship. Seeking solace, he escapes to Paris to rediscover his sound and identity. Filmmaker Adam Lough artfully captures Hot Sugar’s creative process using vintage recording gear while also delving into the musician’s introspective thoughts shared directly with the audience. As the breakup becomes fodder for social media, the journey continues to unfold, revealing deeper layers of both the artist and his craft. Fun and vibrant. This lyrical documentary, “Hot Sugar’s Cold World (2015),” can be streamed online. Watch it for free on cineby or 123Movies and explore a modern musician’s enchanting creative journey.
