Star Men

In “Star Men (2015),” four distinguished astronomers celebrate half a century of professional achievements and camaraderie by embarking on a nostalgic road trip through the American Southwest. Reviving their youthful escapades, they reminisce about their collective influence during an exhilarating era of astronomical discovery. The participants—Roger, an expert instrument-maker; Donald, a skilled theoretician; Nick, a forward-thinking visionary; and Wal, a thorough observer—symbolize one of the most fruitful periods in the exploration of space. Their teamwork contributed to constructing the globe’s largest observatories and led to groundbreaking cosmic discoveries that could potentially alter humanity’s self-perception. Alison Rose presents a humorous, profound, and intimate look at their friendship, as these men explore how their monumental contributions to understanding the universe have affected their personal beliefs, ideas about life’s purpose, and concepts of the known and unknown.
