Nihon no ichiban nagai hi ketteiban

In July 1945, as World War II draws to a close, Japan faces immense pressure to accept the Potsdam Declaration. Endless cabinet meetings stretch through day and night without reaching a consensus. Amidst this turmoil, the U.S. devastates Hiroshima and Nagasaki with atomic bombs. General Korechika Anami struggles with the weight of making the right decision, while the Japanese Emperor is deeply concerned for his people. Prime Minister Kantaro Suzuki takes charge of the cabinet discussions, with Chief Secretary Hisatsune Sakomizu powerlessly observing the events unfold. Meanwhile, Major Kenji Hatanaka and other young officers, opposed to Japan’s surrender, plot to seize control of the palace and a radio station. Their aim is to block the broadcast of Emperor Hirohito’s announcement of Japan’s decision to end the war. Nihon no ichiban nagai hi ketteiban (2015) is a gripping tale of this critical moment.
