Having spent over four decades together, Penny believes Koko offers new insights into the cognitive abilities of animals. Every pivotal moment of Koko and Penny’s journey has been captured on film, totaling over 2,000 hours of footage that includes Penny’s struggle to prevent Koko from being returned to the zoo and her academic disputes with skeptics.
