Safe Conduct

Set against the backdrop of the French film industry from 1942 to 1944 during the Nazi occupation, “Safe Conduct (2002)” explores the contrasting lives of two key figures. Assistant director and resistance member Jean Devaivre finds himself entangled in perilous political activities, while simultaneously gaining respect at the German production company, Continental. Meanwhile, the screenwriter Jean Aurenche is always moving to avoid writing anything that promotes collaboration with the occupiers, but his personal vices, including procrastination and womanizing, hinder his progress.
