Ravayate Makhdush

Set against the backdrop of censorship in Iran, this avant-garde film recounts the unsettling narrative of an affluent, middle-aged Iranian businessman and his teenage wife, Goli, through the lens of grainy, home video footage. After receiving a camcorder as a birthday gift, Goli captures the entire tale from her perspective, revealing her dark past as a captive since the age of nine, during the Kurdish rebellion. As she now finds herself pregnant, her newfound independence through learning English and reading prompts another wave of confinement by her husband. Ravayate Makhdush (2002) is a gripping tale.
