White Shadow

Since 2008, individuals with albinism in Tanzania have been targeted for horrific reasons. Witch doctors place substantial bounties on their body parts, intending to use them for purported magical potions. Between 2008 and 2010, this macabre trend led to over 200 murders inspired by these witch doctors. A local adage grimly states, “Albinos do not die, they just disappear.” The narrative follows Alias, a young albino boy fleeing for his life. After his father is murdered, his mother sends him to the city where his uncle Kosmos, who drives a truck, takes him under his wing. In the bustling city, Alias quickly learns the ropes by selling sunglasses, DVDs, and cellphones, only to encounter the harsh realities of life and the challenges of standing out.
