Night Has Settled

In 1983, thirteen-year-old Oliver Nicholas is on the brink of entering the daunting and thrilling world of adolescence, encountering first loves, vodka, and other coming-of-age experiences in New York City. However, his journey takes an unexpected turn when he is deeply shaken by the stroke suffered by his housekeeper, Aida, who is also the closest thing he has to a maternal figure. The promise of an adventurous leap into teenage life is quickly overshadowed by a spiral into unfathomable sadness, leading to turmoil within his home. His life is further complicated by the women surrounding him: his unconventional Spanish mother, who prefers to be his confidante rather than a traditional parent; his sister, who is both a comedic presence and a tormentor marked by their parent’s divorce; and Aida, clinging to life in Lenox Hill Hospital. In the midst of this chaos, Oliver strives to uphold his responsibilities as the “man of the house” while battling to keep his mental health intact. Watch “Night Has Settled (2014)” on this site.
