Corações Sujos

In 1945, while the world celebrated Japan’s surrender to the United States, a different narrative prevailed among eighty percent of the Japanese community in Brazil, who believed that Japan had triumphed, dismissing the news of defeat as mere American propaganda. Those who accepted the reality of Japan’s surrender were met with hostility, and some even faced murderous persecution by their fellow countrymen, sparking a clandestine conflict. “Corações Sujos” unfolds through the eyes of the wife of a fervent believer in Japan’s supposed victory, narrating how her diligent immigrant husband transforms into a murderer, causing their love story to unravel.
