Neighboring Sounds

In a contemporary middle-class neighborhood in Recife, Brazil, the routine is disrupted when an independent private security company sets up shop. Their presence instills a mix of security and apprehension in a culture heavily influenced by fear. Against this backdrop, Bia, a married woman with two children, tries to cope with the relentless barking and howling of a neighbor’s dog. This film provides a snapshot of ‘Braziliana’, exploring themes of history, violence, and noise. Neighboring Sounds (2012) can be streamed for free.
