Cinemawala

“Cinemawala” is a heartfelt film that pays homage to the vanishing charm of single-screen cinemas in India. At its heart, it tells the story of Pranabendu Das, a retired film exhibitor residing in a small West Bengal town. He owns a theater named ‘Kamalini,’ in honor of his estranged wife. As modern technology and digital media take over, Pranabendu faces the heartbreaking necessity of closing down his beloved theater, which exclusively showcased films on celluloid. In contrast, his son Prakash remains indifferent to his father’s predicament, choosing instead to pursue a business selling pirated DVDs in the town. This narrative explores the complex dynamics of their father-son relationship against the enchanting backdrop of cinema. Despite their differences, both share a passion for film, albeit in divergent ways. “Cinemawala” is available for free streaming.
