Vatel

Set in the year 1671, amidst brewing tensions with Holland, a destitute prince hosts King Louis XIV for a lavish three-day celebration at the Chantilly chateau. The prince’s goal is to secure a military commission by dazzling the king with opulence. At the center of this grandeur is Vatel, the honorable yet low-born steward, who faces the prince’s relentless demands. As Vatel navigates these challenges, he becomes enamored with Anne de Montausier, the king’s latest mistress, who sees in him an authenticity absent in the cutthroat court. Their connection is genuine, posing the question of whether they can emerge unscathed from their precarious positions. Watch Vatel (2000) online now.
