Everynight… Everynight

“Everynight… Everynight” (1995) is a gripping Australian drama directed by Alkinos Tsilimidos, which paints an intense picture of life inside Melbourne’s notorious HM Prison Pentridge’s H Division. Adapted from Ray Mooney’s play, the film examines the early life of Christopher Dale Flannery, a contract killer in the making. He languishes in the limbo of a remandee awaiting trial, and the narrative lays bare the brutal injustices Flannery suffers from repeated beatings by the hands of the prison officers. Over time, Dale becomes desensitized to the violence around him and discovers a rebellious, subversive way to cope and vent his pent-up rage. The movie concludes with Dale’s defiant walk out of the prison for his court hearing, symbolizing the failure of the system to suppress his spirit and control his destiny.
