The Truce

While liberated from Auschwitz in January 1945, Levi’s return to Turin wasn’t realized until October of that year. Following a period in a Soviet camp meant for ex-concentration camp inmates, Levi set out on a challenging homeward trek alongside Italian ex-POWs from the Russian campaign. This extensive train journey led him through Poland, Russia, Romania, Hungary, Austria, and Germany before finally arriving in Turin. Watch The Truce (1997) online now.
