My Class

In “My Class (2013),” a veteran teacher conducts weekly Italian lessons for a diverse group of immigrants, offering them hope and opportunity. Through Daniele Gaglianone’s direction, a seemingly straightforward story is transformed into a rich tapestry that blurs the boundaries between reality and fiction, truth and pretense, and documentary and narrative film. The film cleverly intertwines staged sequences featuring professional actors, such as the renowned Valerio Mastandrea, with genuine accounts of immigrants working towards employment and residency. In the classroom, these lessons weave together tales of hardship and humor, highlighting the students’ personal stories and their collective journey towards a brighter future.
