The Ghost Army

In the midst of World War II, a select group of American soldiers embarked on an extraordinary mission to stage an elaborate traveling road show of illusions across the European battlefields, with their audience being none other than the German Army. This unique unit, known as the 23rd Headquarters Special Troops, expertly employed inflatable tanks, sound trucks, and mesmerizing performance art to repeatedly deceive the enemy, often from perilously close positions on the front lines. Many members of this clandestine group were accomplished artists, and some even rose to fame, such as fashion designer Bill Blass. As they navigated through Europe, they spent their free moments painting and sketching, leaving behind a distinct and emotional visual chronicle of their wartime experiences. Their covert operations remained classified for nearly half a century after the conflict concluded. “The Ghost Army (2013)” is now streaming right here for free.
