A Great British Air Disaster

This documentary chronicles the spectacular ascent and tragic decline of the De Havilland Comet, the world’s first passenger jet. Conceived during World War II by a group of visionary British scientists, this groundbreaking aircraft was meant to usher in a new age of aviation. Debuting in May 1952, the Comet garnered immediate acclaim from travelers, becoming an iconic symbol of progress. However, tragedy struck in early 1954 when two Comet aircraft catastrophically disintegrated mid-flight, claiming the lives of everyone onboard. The sudden and mysterious nature of these disasters called the future of passenger jet aviation into question. At Prime Minister Winston Churchill’s behest, a group of top British aviation authorities was tasked with unraveling the mystery.
