Ming of Harlem: Twenty One Storeys in the Air

“Ming of Harlem: Twenty One Storeys in the Air” tells the unique tale of Ming, Al, and Antoine Yates, who shared an apartment in the Drew-Hamilton housing complex in Harlem. For years, their unusual living arrangement went unnoticed until 2003, when their story made headlines, shocking many. The revelation that Ming was a 500-pound tiger and Al was a seven-foot alligator added a remarkable twist to their narrative. Through Yates’s memories, the film poetically explores the cohabitation of man and beasts, incorporating text by philosopher Jean-Luc Nancy to delve into themes of wildness, territory, and the interplay between humans and animals.
