A Band Called Death

In the early ’70s, three teenage brothers from Detroit formed a band named Death, setting the stage as the first black punk band long before Bad Brains, the Sex Pistols, or even the Ramones. The Hackney brothers, David, Bobby, and Dannis, eventually became pioneering figures in the punk music scene. Remarkably, it took almost three decades for a demo tape from 1974 to emerge from Bobby’s attic, bringing Death’s groundbreaking sound to a broader audience beyond a niche of punk aficionados.
