Overview

The Tribe is a captivating New Zealand/British post-apocalyptic TV series geared primarily towards a teenage audience. The storyline unfolds in a dystopian near-future where a lethal virus has eradicated all adults, leaving children to survive on their own. The narrative centers on an unnamed city, now populated by various tribes of youths and teenagers fending for themselves. Filming predominantly took place in the scenic areas surrounding Wellington, New Zealand.

The series was the brainchild of Raymond Thompson and Harry Duffin, who developed and produced it under the Cloud 9 Screen Entertainment Group in collaboration with Channel 5 in the UK. It found a wide audience, airing on more than 40 networks worldwide. The Tribe premiered on Channel 5 on April 24, 1999, quickly amassing a dedicated fan base. Over the span of five series, 260 half-hour episodes were created between 1999 and 2003. Although a sixth series was initially planned for 2003, Channel 5’s Nick Wilson and Raymond Thompson decided the show had run its course, as the cast was aging and the premise was being stretched. Consequently, the series was concluded, with Channel 5 broadcasting the last two episodes on September 6, 2003.
