A Tale of Springtime

In Eric Rohmer’s Four Seasons series, *A Tale of Springtime* (1990) kicks off with a tale about how seemingly simple conversations can lead to complex human connections. This film tells the story of an introverted young woman, Florence Darel, who meets an older woman, Anne Teyssedre, at a party. Despite the older woman already having a romantic partner, Darel is determined to pair her with her own father, creating an amusing scenario known to both adults. Although both Teyssedre and Quester feel a mutual, reluctant attraction, they find Darel’s matchmaking efforts both humorous and irritating. However, they realize that traditional methods of meeting someone aren’t the only ways to explore new relationships, emphasizing the unpredictability of life’s opportunities. The film captures this interplay against a backdrop of fleeting human connections and evolving relationships. *A Tale of Springtime* (1990) is available for streaming.
