Semi-Pro

In the 2008 film “Semi-Pro,” Jackie Moon takes on multiple roles as owner, promoter, coach, and star player for the Flint Michigan Tropics, a struggling team in the American Basketball Association (ABA). Set in 1976, the ABA is on the verge of collapse, and the NBA is planning to merge with the top four teams of the ABA by the end of the season. The Tropics, sitting at the bottom of the league, must dramatically improve their performance if they aspire to join the NBA. The major hurdle is that Jackie Moon’s abilities as a coach and player are not as stellar as he perceives. In a quest to prevent the team from fading into obscurity and to cement his legacy, Jackie Moon must drive his team to secure a fourth-place finish in the playoffs.
