Wayne Wenders, a struggling actor played by Eric Mabius, is best known for his humorous role in a low-budget commercial promoting Irritable Bowel Syndrome medication. Eager to transform his image, he finally secures a lead role in a national root beer advertisement. However, when his payment is unexpectedly delayed, Wayne must find alternative means to cover his overdue rent. This leads him to apply for a position teaching Shakespeare at a local high school. Principal Brenda Post, portrayed by Stefanie Powers, hires him due to his inherent theatrical flair and energetic spirit. Wayne unexpectedly discovers a passion for teaching and is captivated by fellow English teacher Amy, played by Virginia Williams, who admires his enthusiasm and innovative plan to engage students through a creative film project. As Wayne grows into his role as an educator and his connection with Amy deepens, he faces a critical decision regarding his pursuit of stardom versus embracing his newfound calling.
