Dogtooth

In “Dogtooth” (2009), the lives of three siblings are trapped within the boundaries of a secluded countryside estate, as if they inhabit a different planet altogether. They spend their days inundated with homemade tapes designed to instill a completely new lexicon in their minds. Words from outside their family home are promptly given an altered significance; for instance, ‘the sea’ becomes a big armchair, while ‘zombies’ symbolize small, yellow flowers. An imaginary brother, supposedly expelled for insubordination, is part of the web of control woven by their oppressive parents to keep them in check.
