As the Light Goes Out

The unbreakable bond of brotherhood truly shines when faced with life-or-death scenarios, where the only lifeline is the unwavering trust that your comrade will come through. This theme is at the heart of “As the Light Goes Out (2014),” a gripping tale about the Hong Kong firefighters from the Pillar Point division. They expect a quiet night as they gather to say farewell to their retiring chief, but their camaraderie is severely tested when a small blaze at a liquor warehouse threatens to lead to a city-wide blackout if it reaches a nearby natural gas power facility. The tension escalates as politics, rivalry, and mistrust weave through the chaos, especially when poor choices are made and dire warnings go unheeded. With colleagues falling around them, the real question is whether the Pillar Point team can emerge from this ordeal with their solidarity and trust still intact.
