Shelby American

Carroll Shelby’s journey from being a chicken farmer in rural Texas to becoming a legendary figure in the world of auto racing is truly inspiring. He burst onto the racing scene by defeating top competitors, securing a victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1959—all while clad in his chicken-farming attire. Despite a heart condition that nearly ended his career, Shelby founded Shelby American, assembling a team of talented hot-rodders to realize his dream of creating iconic sports cars like the Shelby Cobra. His leadership helped Ford and the GT40 achieve remarkable victories at Le Mans, triumphing over Ferrari. The cars Shelby designed were piloted by some of the most skilled drivers ever, solidifying his reputation. Remarkably, he remains the only person to have won Le Mans as both a driver and manufacturer, and the sole American auto-manufacturer to clinch the World Manufacturing Championship.
