Kwaidan

The film **Kwaidan (1964)** draws from the ancient Japanese term for “ghost story,” presenting a collection of four eerie folktales. First, a destitute samurai enters a marriage driven by financial need, only to face dire consequences. In another tale, a traveler caught in a blizzard is rescued by Yuki the Snow Maiden, though this salvation carries an ominous price. Meanwhile, blind musician Hoichi finds himself performing for an ethereal audience of spirits. Lastly, an author tells of a samurai haunted by another warrior’s reflection glimpsed fleetingly in his teacup. It’s simply captivating.
