Pather Panchali

The film revolves around the journey of Apu, a young boy growing up in a modest Indian village at the beginning of the 20th century. Born into a poor Brahmin family in Bengal, Apu’s life is shaped by his father, Harihar, who works as a priest and aspires to achieve literary success as a poet and playwright. Although Harihar struggles to provide for the family, it is Apu’s mother, Sarbajaya, who bears the burden of maintaining the household. Her frustration grows as she is forced to share their meager living space with Harihar’s elderly and dependent cousin, Indir. Meanwhile, Apu’s sister, Durga, often lands in trouble for pilfering guavas from neighbors’ orchards to share with Indir. Despite her mischievousness, Durga is a loving sister who delights in jestingly teasing Apu while cherishing the small pleasures life has to offer.
