The Commandant’s Shadow

While Hans Jurgen Höss experienced a joyful upbringing at his family’s villa in Auschwitz, Jewish inmate Anita Lasker-Wallfisch struggled to endure the infamous concentration camp. Central to this remarkable film is an inspiring encounter that occurs eight decades later when these two individuals meet. This marks the inaugural meeting between the descendant of a notorious war criminal and a survivor, set within the intimate confines of Anita’s living room in London. Alongside their offspring, Kai Höss and Maya Lasker-Wallfisch, the four navigate their vastly different family legacies. You can seamlessly stream The Commandant’s Shadow (2024) online right here.
