The Little Pageant That Could

This engaging documentary traces the evolution of L.A.’s “Best in Drag Show,” initially conceived as an impromptu parody of the Miss America pageant by a group of friends in a small West Hollywood apartment in 1990. Over time, it transformed into the city’s longest-running drag charity event, featuring celebrity appearances and raising over $6 million for people affected by HIV/AIDS. With both wit and warmth, director John Carlos Frey guides us through a heartfelt exploration of queer culture and activism, spanning from the 90s to the present day.
