The Pirates

Set against the backdrop of war-ravaged Japan, “The Pirates (1960)” portrays the daring adventures of ‘Bahansen’ pirate ships that roamed the Seto Inland Sea during the Sengoku-jidai. They ventured as far as China, Korea, Luzon, and Siam, carrying the Hachiman banner, in search of exhilaration and independence. The narrative heats up when a mysterious old mariner, rescued from a shipwreck, arrives in Sakai with life-altering secrets. This ignites a fierce maritime rivalry, compelling viewers with one of Toei’s most intellectually engaging stories. The Pirates (1960) is a must-watch.
