Händel: Rodelinda

Renée Fleming delivers a captivating performance as the lead in one of Handel’s finest dramas, showcased in Stephen Wadsworth’s 2004 Metropolitan Opera debut. In the story of “Händel: Rodelinda,” the protagonist faces an overwhelming predicament: With her husband Bertarido thought to be deceased, she must choose either to marry the loathed Grimoaldo, elegantly portrayed by Joseph Kaiser, who has seized her husband’s throne, or risk her son’s life. However, Bertarido, played by the renowned countertenor Andreas Scholl, is very much alive and ultimately restores his reign and reconciles with his adversaries. In this narrative, Stephanie Blythe shines as Eduige, Bertarido’s sister, who, although engaged to Grimoaldo, eventually sides against him. The drama unfolds under the expert direction of baroque maestro Harry Bicket. Watch “Händel: Rodelinda” streaming now!
