The Patriarch

In the 1960s, the Mahanas and the Poatas, two rival Maori families, earn their livelihood by shearing sheep on New Zealand’s east coast. Each year, these adversarial clans go head-to-head at the local sheep shearing contests. Among them is Simeon, a 14-year-old from the Mahana clan, who bravely defies his tyrannical grandfather, Tamihana, by challenging his outdated beliefs and starting to uncover the roots of the longstanding family feud. As Simeon delves deeper, the very foundations of their community are shaken, especially since Tamihana, with his unyielding pride, refuses to adapt and explore new possibilities. “The Patriarch (2016)” offers an engaging tale you can stream online right here.
