A Friend of Mine

Seventy-year-old Mati, a dedicated book lover, finds solace in his library job, which aligns perfectly with his passion. Outside of work, he cherishes the small moments spent with his sweet wife. However, his world shatters when she suddenly passes away, leaving him in turmoil. Mati’s life, once stable, spirals into chaos, and neither his teenage daughter nor his treasured collection of books can offer comfort. Overwhelmed by loneliness and apathy, he contemplates ending his life. Yet, Mati’s path crosses with that of Sass, an enigmatic 60-year-old wanderer who carries a backpack full of books and visits public libraries to read newspapers. This chance meeting begins to restore Mati’s zest for life, slowly rekindling his interest in the world. “A Friend of Mine” beautifully illustrates how friendship can help us navigate life’s darkest times.
