Ask No Questions

In “Ask No Questions (2019),” the narrative follows Chen Ruichang, who finds himself incarcerated in a brainwashing center reminiscent of “Clockwork Orange,” after Chinese state TV blames his spiritual beliefs for a high-profile public suicide. Despite his previous position within the state-controlled media, Chen suspects that the incident was orchestrated by the government itself. Meanwhile, a CNN journalist manages to smuggle out video footage of the event, only to face swift censorship by Beijing. Her brave account, however, becomes pivotal in unraveling a complex conspiracy, as authorities escalate their efforts to intimidate the filmmaker’s relatives and business partners.
