Barbara

Set during the summer of 1980 in East Germany, the film “Barbara” introduces us to a solitary doctor who finds herself living and working in a small provincial town as a consequence of her attempt to flee to the West. Her only goal is to escape, forcing her to bide her time with patience. However, Barbara’s plans are disrupted when Andre, her hospital supervisor, enters her life, leaving her to wonder if his intentions stem from genuine affection or allegiance to the regime. As each day passes, the charade she maintains and the constant surveillance begin to wear her down, escalating the tension. Barbara (2012) is available to stream here.
