Barefoot Gen

Set in the aftermath of the atomic bomb’s devastation, Barefoot Gen tells the poignant tale of a young boy and the broader impact on the Japanese community. This gripping story is drawn from the highly regarded manga by Nakazawa Keiji, a survivor of the Hiroshima bombing when he was just six years old. The tragedy claimed the lives of his father, sister, and brother, leaving Nakazawa and his mother to dig through the remnants of their home searching for their loved ones. In 1963, Nakazawa pursued his passion as a manga artist in Tokyo, though he returned in 1966 to Hiroshima for his mother’s funeral, where he gradually uncovered the full extent of the bomb’s radiation effects.
