Bathtubs Over Broadway

Starting his career as a comedy writer for the Late Show with David Letterman, Steve Young led a solitary life with limited interests and few social connections beyond work. However, his world took an unexpected turn when he stumbled upon vintage record albums while sourcing material for a segment. These peculiar cast recordings, labeled for “internal use only,” showcased Broadway-style musicals centered around major American corporations like General Electric, McDonald’s, Ford, DuPont, and Xerox. “Bathtubs Over Broadway” chronicles Steve Young’s fascinating journey into this rarely seen realm of corporate musicals. As he delves deeper, seeking out rare albums, unseen footage, and engaging with composers and performers, Steve builds surprising friendships and uncovers that this overlooked musical genre, featuring tractors and bathtubs, was a larger phenomenon than traditional Broadway itself.
