Beauty Is Embarrassing

Growing up in the Tennessee mountains, Wayne White began as a cartoonist in New York City. His talents soon propelled him to prominence when he became one of the masterminds behind the TV classic, Pee-wee’s Playhouse, which opened doors to crafting some of pop culture’s most iconic visuals. Lately, his word paintings, which cleverly integrate witty and often sardonic phrases onto old landscape paintings, have garnered him acclaim in the fine art community. The film delves into the exhilarating highs and daunting lows of White’s journey, as he navigates the delicate equilibrium between his career and personal artistry. This challenge is intensified for a man who often satirizes the very qualities he grapples with—vanity, ego, and fame.
