Brecht

In 1956, as he approaches the end of his life in East Berlin, Bertolt Brecht, a pioneer in theatre and a maverick in society, reflects on his influential journey. From his bold provocations in World War I Augsburg to the pinnacles of poetic and romantic pursuits in Munich and Berlin during the 1920s, Brecht navigates a life marked by creativity and conflict. His escape from Hitler’s regime and subsequent exile in the United States underscore a life immersed in resistance and reinvention, leading to his later years grappling with the duality of being both a timeless classic and a struggling figure in East Germany’s political landscape.
