Brooklyn Castle

The documentary “Brooklyn Castle” delves into the impressive achievements of I.S. 318, a city school where most students come from low-income families—yet it boasts the nation’s most successful junior high chess team. Remarkably, even if Albert Einstein joined the team, with his 1800 rating, he would only secure the fifth spot. Chess has elevated the school’s status from being labeled as needing improvement in 2003 to becoming one of New York’s top institutions. Unfortunately, these accomplishments face jeopardy due to budget cuts impacting public schools following the recession. Watch Brooklyn Castle!
