Brown’s Requiem

In “Brown’s Requiem” (1998), we meet Fritz Brown, a former Los Angeles police officer who is battling alcoholism. Now, he juggles his time between repossessing cars for a used car dealership and running his own one-man private investigation firm. The plot takes a twist when Freddy “Fat Dog” Baker, a scruffy golf caddie, bursts into Fritz’s office, brandishing a pile of cash. Freddy hires Fritz to keep an eye on his younger sister, Jane, who is involved with a much older wealthy man from Beverly Hills, Sol Kupferman. Seventy-year-old Kupferman works as a financial courier for organized crime, and Fat Dog fears that Sol might be plotting something dangerous that could jeopardize Jane’s safety. As Fritz digs deeper, he confronts the shadows of his own past, particularly through a tense encounter with Haywood Cathcart, the head honcho of LAPD’s internal affairs who was responsible for ending Fritz’s police career.
