Cameraman: The Life and Work of Jack Cardiff

In 2001, Jack Cardiff (1914-2009) became celebrated as the first director of photography to receive an Honorary Oscar from the Academy. However, his journey with the famed golden statuette commenced nearly fifty years earlier when he earned an Oscar for his Technicolor magic in Powell and Pressburger’s masterpiece, Black Narcissus. Cardiff’s cinematic legacy is further enriched by his work on classics like John Huston’s The African Queen and King Vidor’s War and Peace.
