Candles on Bay Street

In “Candles on Bay Street,” the story unfolds as DeeDee returns to the town she left 13 years ago with her 11-year-old son, Trooper. Her childhood companion, Sam, now lives there with his wife, Lydia, and they both serve as the community’s veterinarians. While Lydia harbors slight reservations about DeeDee due to her history with Sam, DeeDee and Trooper endear themselves to the locals with their kindness and involvement. DeeDee starts a candle-making business in the town square, hosting weekly gatherings that help to bridge friendships, notably with Lydia. During a dinner with Lydia and Sam, DeeDee confides in Sam about her serious illness, revealing her limited time and seeking his help to secure a loving family for Trooper. Sam shares this with Lydia, and together they decide to offer Trooper a home in the event something happens to DeeDee.
