Carnival in Flanders

Set in the year 1616 within the Hispanic Monarchy’s jurisdiction, the residents of the quaint town of Boom in Flanders are eagerly preparing for their yearly festival. Their excitement is abruptly interrupted by the news that the Duke of Olivares, representing King Philip III of Spain, will visit their town. While the men of Boom are overwhelmed with fear and uncertainty, behaving like a frightened crew on a sinking ship, it’s the town’s determined women, spearheaded by the fearless wife of the burgomaster, who rise to the occasion, pledging to provide unmatched hospitality to their Spanish guests.
