Cousins

Mata, Missy, and Makareta are three cousins whose lives take divergent paths due to varying circumstances, though they remain united by family ties. Orphaned Mata, unaware of her whanau, endures a lonely and confusing childhood. Meanwhile, Makareta, educated and ambitious, escapes an arranged marriage to pursue a legal career and embark on a quest to find her lost cousin. Back on their ancestral land, the spirited Missy assumes the role of guardian, or kaitiaki. Over time, as the threat of losing their family land looms, the once-solid promise to reunite with their displaced cousin feels increasingly distant—until an unexpected meeting changes the course of their lives.
