Darkness in Tenement 45

Sixteen-year-old Joanna has been living with her controlling Aunt Martha in a tenement building in New York City ever since a violent incident left her battling an inner turmoil she calls the “darkness.” Unbeknownst to her, shortly after her move, a biological threat originating from the Soviet Union would lead to the building being sealed off, with its residents trapped inside. It has now been a month since their isolation began. As their food supplies dwindle and Martha’s commanding role continues to grow, Joanna understands that she must confront both her inner darkness and her aunt to protect the residents. Nevertheless, the challenge remains—can she assume leadership without succumbing completely to the darkness within? “Darkness in Tenement 45 (2020),” available for streaming, presents these compelling challenges.
